Case study:
St Helen’s Park Preservation Society
How a new website raised awareness, boosted donations, and streamlined charity administration.

St Helen’s Park is a historic woodland on the edge of Hastings, enjoyed by families, walkers and nature lovers. The Preservation Society (run by dedicated trustees and volunteers) looks after the park and raises funds for its ongoing care. Despite their vital role, the charity’s existing website was outdated, difficult to update, and failed to inspire donations or engagement beyond the immediate town.
We delivered a fully restructured website designed to both showcase the park and encourage long-term support for the Society. Key features included:
- Magazine-style homepage – fresh, engaging layout where trustees can easily tag articles, events and news updates that appear automatically.
- Improved navigation – reframed the site to highlight the charity’s role in protecting the park, encouraging emotional connection and ongoing support.
- Social integration – embedded Facebook feed and sharing buttons to extend reach through visitors’ own networks.
- Supporter sign-ups – “Friends of St Helen’s Park” form with online payments, plus clear calls to donate, illustrated by showing the impact of each contribution.
- Volunteer engagement – “Get Involved” page showcasing opportunities to become a trustee, volunteer, or contribute in other ways.
- BBQ booking system – replaced chaotic manual enquiries with an automated system where visitors book and pay online, with availability controlled by the admin team.
- Trustee visibility – optional LinkedIn-linked profiles to add transparency and credibility.
- Newsletter integration – Mailchimp sign-up embedded in the footer for ongoing supporter communication.
We also advised on using social media to drive traffic – while ensuring the website converts that traffic into warm leads – including our complimentary free Webinar to help our clients do boost online visibility in almost 50 ways from a single blog post.
Since launch, the new website has delivered:
- Increased donations and membership through the clear “Friends of” and “Donate” sections
- A sharp reduction in admin time thanks to the automated BBQ booking system
- More engagement with local families, dog walkers and visitors through the magazine-style homepage and embedded social feeds
- Stronger positioning as a charity-led initiative, inspiring emotional connection and long-term support
“We found working with FAT Promotions on a new website incredibly straightforward… it was a great experience. For a small charity run by a team of volunteers, this was very welcome! They gave us very clear instructions, listened to and responded to our concerns and ideas very efficiently and clearly, and guided us through the complex process without making it seem too daunting. The result is a website we can all be really proud of, and one that we believe is going to help us enormously with fund-raising and helping the charity achieve its mission. Highly recommended!! ”

For St Helen’s Park Preservation Society, the website has become more than an information hub – it is now a vital fundraising and engagement tool. By combining modern design with automated systems and a supporter-first focus, the Society can continue to care for the park while building stronger, lasting relationships with its community.
